She had sailed from IJmuiden on Mar 13. The cause of the grounding was unknown. The ship seemed to have suffered a leak and remained aground until a salvage plan has been approved. The Danish SAR boat "Hercules - MHV 812" was on site in the morning of Mar 16. Hekla refloated. The tug "Fenja" (IMO: 9192076) refloated the "Hekla" at Drejens Odde in the Kolding Fjord in the morning of Mar 18. The cargo ship berthed at the North Quay in Kolding at 10.30 a.m. for inspections and to be unloaded.

On July 2, 2016, at 3.30 a.m. the "Hekla" ran aground on the embankment of the Kiel Canal near Sehestedt Close to the wharf at Steinwehr enroute from Gdansk to Bremen. The canal was barred for shipping for short time before the traffic control Brunsbüttel allowed ship traffic in one way direction between Rade and Königsförde. The tug "Kiel" was dispatched from Kiel and pulled the ship back into the fairway at 7 a.m. The tug then escorted the "Hekla" to the communal port in Rendsburg where it berthed at 7.50 a.m. and the water Police Kiel boarded the ship for investigations
