2012-03-06: Emotion ran into Marnedijk. The Cyprus flagged container m/v Marnedijk which had entered the large lock of the Kiel Canal in Brunsbuettel on Mar 6, 2012, sailing westbound from Gdanks to Bremerhaven, was hit by the EMOTION which entered the lock at 10.35 a.m. but could not be stopped in time after a cable at the foreship snapped while mooring within the lock and ran into the Marnedijk. The EMOTION was coming from Riga at that time. The water police Brunsbuettel launched an investigation. Voyage continued. Both the Marnedijk and the Dutch container m/v EMOTION resumed their respective voyages on Mar 6 around noon. The EMOTION had remained undamaged when running into the stern of the "Marnedijk", the latter had suffered broken and torn railings. The collision was due to a space of only 30 metres inside the lock chamber left to manoever, which was not enough when a cable of the EMOTION broke which was, in combination with the engine, used to stop the vessel as it was entering the lock.
