Gisteravond vernamen wij van Smit & Co Scheepsagentuur te Maassluis:
Bij het Maasvuurschip zit de RUURLO van Gebr. Scheuer te Amsterdam in nood. De reddingsboot van Hoek van Holland kon niet naar buiten door het slechte weer. Sleepboten van L. Smit & Co., houden zich gereed om zodra mogelijk te hulp te komen. Drie mijlen bewesten Schouwen op de Ooster is een schip gestrand, waarvan niets naders bekend is.

Rotterdam, Nov. 7 – Dutch steamer RUURLO, from Spain, iron ore, stranded on the Maasvlakte last night. Tugs cannot approach, but the lifeboat is now alongside. Crew still on board.
Rotterdam, Nov. 7 – Dutch steamer RUURLO is high on the beach, but is making no water. Master reports that it is impossible to float her without lightening.

RUURLO – Maassluis, Nov. 7 – The lifeboat has landed 30 men from the steamer RUURLO, ashore on the Maasvlakte; 2nd mate drowned, two stokers injured. Master still on board. (Later) The master has been landed at Hook of Holland by the steam lifeboat (Zeepost).
Rotterdam, Nov. 8 – Dutch steamer RUURLO: Salvage contract has been made with L. Smit & Co., Maassluis. Salvors tried to approach the vessel this afternoon but it was impossible on account of the high sea.

Rotterdam, Nov. 9 – Dutch steamer RUURLO: Discharge proceeding well. Holds dry; afterpeak full of water. Making steam.

RUURLO – Rotterdam, Nov. 10 – Discharge of the Dutch steamer RUURLO going on satisfactorily under vessel’s own steam. About twenty small lighters are alongside. Weather keeps fine.
Rotterdam, Nov. 10 – Yesterday about 200 tons iron ore was discharged into lighters from the stranded steamer RUURLO and taken to Hellevoetsluis. An anchor was laid out today. The vessel’s position is unchanged (N.R.C.)
Rotterdam, Nov. 11 – Steamer RUURLO: Jettisoned portion of cargo; 500 tons discharged into lighters to be transhipped Helvoet. Anchor and chain brought out yesterday. No possible chance of getting her off before next spring tide.
Rotterdam, Nov. 12 – Position of steamer RUURLO unchanged; lightening being continued.
Rotterdam, Nov. 14 – Steamer RUURLO moved two points on Nov. 12. On the night of Nov. 12 a total of 750 tons had been lightened, of which about 400 tons discharged into lighters.

RUURLO – Rotterdam, Nov. 15 – The lightening of the steamer RUURLO is being continued. The total quantity discharged yesterday evening was 1.200 tons; the salvors cannot yet say what quantity was jettisoned. As soon as the tides become higher, efforts will be made to tow the vessel off.

RUURLO – Rotterdam, Nov. 18. Three lighters with 800 tons of ore ex steamer RUURLO have now arrived here from Hellevoetsluis. The RUURLO is making water in the forepeak and afterpeak, but the holds are dry. The vessel’s head has moved slightly to the north. 350 tons of cargo were jettisoned today.
Nov. 19 – The position of the vessel is unchanged. The water is very low and jettisoning is being continued.

RUURLO – Rotterdam, Nov. 29. About 1.100 tons sound ore has been discharged from No. 1 and 2 bunker holds of the steamer RUURLO, and about 400 tons sound ore from No. 3 hold. The lighters with damaged ore are now being discharged.
