Ship Events Data

1940-05-00: In august 1939 the German merchant vessel ESTE, loaded with various goods, sought refuge in the then neutral port of Curacao, intending to stay there during the impending war with France and Great Britain.
After the German surprise attack the 10th of May 1940 on Holland, the Dutch Autorities seized the ESTE, brought her under the Dutch flag and was renamed SURINAME.
1942-09-13: Final Fate:
Torpedoed and sunk by U-558, 110 miles N. of Trinidad. (pos. 12º 07' N. – 63º 32' W.) Thirteen of her crew were lost.
