1940-07-15: Final Fate:
On Monday July 15, 1940, sailing under the command of Master Zygmunt Kinast in convoy FN-223 from Southend to Methil 'Zbaraz' was badly damaged by German bombers ten miles south of Aldeburgh light vessel. She was taken in tow by the steam rescue tug HMT 'St. Olaves (W 40)', Ty/Lt. H. L. Forster, RNR, but sank near South Ship Head Buoy, 12 miles south of Harwich, 51.53.48 NB, 01.34.24 OL. There were no casualties. The survivors were rescued by auxiliary patrol vessel HMT 'Vidonia (FY 433)' and HM rescue tug 'Muria'. 'Zbaraz' shared her fate with the British cargo vessel 'Heworth', Master James Fox Williams, which sailed in the same convoy. On November 8, 1940, 'Muria' struck a mine and sank with the loss of all hands.
