History
The schooner "Edda" was built in 1921 at the Friederich Krupp Germaniawerft shipyard in Kiel . The ship was 112 feet and 2.5 inches (34.20 m) long, 24 feet 8.5 inches (7.53 m) wide, with a draft of 8 feet 6 inches (2.59 m). The drive was a four-cylinder diesel engine Vickers Petters power of 200 hp and a single screw. The gross tonnage of the vessel was 194 tons, the net tonnage [a] was 94 [1] . The maximum speed was 8.5 knots [1] .

After launching, the ship changed its owners and name several times, its names were successively - "Edda", "Palanga", "Antiope", "Therese", again "Antiope" and finally from 1930 [2] - "Gerard" belonging to the Gerard Shipping line from Port of Adelaide [1] .

After the war broke out, the Starek was commandeered by the RAN on April 5, 1941. It was armed with a single 12-pounder (76.2 mm) anti-aircraft gun, a 20 mm Oerlikon single cannon, and a Browning (7.62 mm) machine gun, later replaced by a double rifle machine gun Vickers (7.7 mm) The crew consisted of 28 people - three officers, 3 non-commissioned officers and 22 sailors. The ship entered service on July 1, 1941 as HMAS "Gerard" (FY62) [1] .

Initially, she served in Port Kembla as an examinatio vessel . In 1943, the ship arrived in Sydney, where it was converted into a stores vessel , in that role she served until the end of the war. On April 8, 1946, it was withdrawn to the reserve, it was returned to the previous owners on July 23, 1947 [1] .

"Gerard" was still sailing in the 1980s (Lloyd's registration - 5129538) [1] .
1976-00-00: Final Fate:
Stranded on the North Coast of New Britain. The hull was used as House boat for seasonal lumber workers (Open Bay Timber Pty, Ltd.) In 1979 reported in Main Port Cargoes as: Constructive Total Loss.
