Welcome on the website of the Stichting Maritiem-Historische Databank (Marhisdata)

For those interested in the maritime history of The Netherlands, now information can be found of all seagoing merchantvessels, which sailed under the Dutch flag as from 1813, including those with homeport in the (former) overseas territories. Besides general information regarding our foundation, the menue will lead you to the search-functions which will deal with your queries.

Many data of the approx. 12.500 to 15.000 ships are not yet known and/or stored in the database. As a consequence of our research, for instance with respect to sofar unknown sailingvessels of the 19th century, as well as amendments and data of new ships, weekly additions take place. In the menue Publications (sub-menue News) information is given as to the state of affairs. Unfortunately it is possible that specific information you are looking for is not yet available in the database. In that case you can ask for our assistence (menue Contact).

At present, the Marhisdata team consists of 21 collaborators, who are engaged in reseach and data-entry, as well as in permanent checking of the data entered. It is obvious that it will take many years of hard work to complete this unique database of the Dutch merchantmarine. Consequently we welcome the assistance of those who might be interested to participate in research, data-entry or data-management.

WE REGRET THAT AT THIS MOMENT OUR WEBSITE IN THE ENGISH LANGUAGE STILL IS "ON THE STOCKS". WE EXPECT IT TO BE AVAILABLE WITHIN SHORT. OF COURSE YOU MAY CONSULT THE DATABASE ON THE DUTCH WEBSITE (click here for the Dutch website).
